Prof. V Venkata Basava Rao born on Seventh July 1964 in Mangalagiri, Guntur District Andhra Pradesh. and completed his primary and intermediate education in CK High School Manglagiri. He has obtained B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Andhra University in 1986 and M.Tech (1988) & Ph D (1991) in Chemical Engineering from IIT-Kharagpur. Worked in M/S. Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bhanur (1991-1995) for 4 years and joined JNTU College of Engineering, Anantapur as Assistant Professor (1995-1997). After working Two and half years in JNTU, moved to University College of Technology, Osmania University (in 1997) as Associate Professor and promoted as Professor in 2005 and Senior Professor in 2015. He has retired from Osmania university on 31st July 2024 at the age of 60 years. He has total 29 years teaching and 4 years industrial experience,
During his service at OU, held many administration posts like Principal, Dean Faculty of Technology & Pharmacy, HoD of Food Technology, Pharmacy & Chemical Engineering, Vice Principal, BoS Chairman for Technology, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology & Hotel Management, Director of Evaluation. Coordinator for World Bank projects, TEQIP and CoE, worth of Rs.25 Crs. He served as Member in CFE and CFO committees of APPCB during 2010-16. Also served as Director, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IIIT-Ongole, RGUKT on Lien during 2017-18.
Supervised 31 PhDs and guided 78 M.Tech theses. Published 67 Technical Papers in reputed Journals and attended 16 international conferences at United States of America, Canada, Germany and Singapore. Prof Basava Rao has been admitted as Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry in the month of March 2024.
To his contributions he was honoured with Young Scientist Award by Andhra Pradesh Council for Science and Technology (APCOST) during 1999. He was awarded 5th position out the TEN as “The Best Professors” by student community in the Survey conducted by M/s. 24/7 Customer in Education for the year 2008. Received “The Hindustan Lever’s The Outstanding Chemical Engineer of the Year 2009 (under 45 years)” Biennial Award.
Prof Basava Rao visited University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada in 2006, University of Louisville, USA in 2007, University of Hamburg- Harburg, Germany in 2008, University of Western Ontario, Canada & National University of Singapore, Singapore in 2009, West Virginia University, Morgantown, USA in 2016 and Arizona State University, Phoenix, USA in 2023, 2024 and 2025. He has given guest lecture and participated in collaborative research with foreign professor.
Prof. Basava Rao has been elected four terms as council member for Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) and extended services as Controller of Examinations, Registrar, Hon. Joint Secretary, Vice President, IIChE (two terms). He was elected as IIChE, national President for the year 2020. He conferred as Life Fellow of IIChE in the CHEMCON 2022 held at Kanpur. He is also FIE and Chartered Engineer of Institution of Engineers. He is Senior Member of AIChE and Life Member of IMS.
